Clearstar Financial Credit Union,
formerly Sierra Schools Credit
Union, is now for everyone. We're
sharing our financial knowledge with
the entire community. With more
member service and money saving
programs, it only takes a second to
see why Clearstar Financial shines
brighter.
In January
1949, an ambitious group known as
the Reno Classroom Teachers’
Association established a financial
institution to meet the banking
needs of area teachers. Each of the
10 founding members contributed $5,
half of which went toward the
organizing and charter fees.
Another $10 was spent to purchase a
checkbook and ledger, leaving a mere
$15 to lend to prospective
teacher-members.
From those humble beginnings,
Clearstar Financial Credit Union,
originally called the Reno Teacher’s
Federal Credit Union, now prides
itself on a much broader membership,
including persons who live, work,
worship, volunteer or attend school
in or businesses or other legal
entities within the thirteen
Northern Nevada counties that we
serve. Clearstar Financial Credit Union
has also established special
partnerships with a select group of
businesses to provide financial
benefits and education to their
employees. Likewise, the credit
union’s original $15 has grown to
assets of over $150 million in 2005.
Clearstar Financial Credit Union
operates as a financial cooperative
that serves its members by providing
competitive, convenient financial
products. “Throughout our history,
our purpose and priorities have
remained the same,” says CEO, Ritch
Van Duzer. “Satisfaction of
members’ needs is the driving force.
We now serve more than 20,000
individuals with an array of
services our founders never dreamed
would exist.
